Newark and The University of Texas at Austin partner to strengthen Computer Science and STEM education
Newark has partnered with The University of Texas at Austin’s WeTeach_CS program to further advance computer science and STEM education by making it easier for both educators to obtain the components they need for their coursework.
The program provides free training, resources, and tools to help educators teach and integrate coding and physical computing in Texas K-5 classrooms.
Empowering educators with micro:bit kits
This initiative expands content knowledge and teaching impact using a trainer-of-trainer model. Over 120 instructional coaches and education service center personnel have the knowledge, resources, and support to implement this training statewide. Upon completion of the workshop, educators will receive a pack of 10 micro:bit devices, provided in partnership with Newark, to teach their students computational thinking and computer science concepts aligned to the new EC-12 Technology Applications state standards.
Newark’s role in program implementation
Newark has played a key role in setting up the framework that makes it easier to deliver computer science, computational thinking, and cybersecurity lessons through the WeTeach_CS program. The company made the process seamless by providing a customized page for trained teachers to be able to order their micro:bit kits upon completion of the workshop and assessment.
