element14 Community launches smart transport design challenge
Global engineering community invited to design next-generation vehicle systems for a chance to win prizes and showcase innovation
element14, an Avnet Community, has launched a new smart transport design challenge inviting engineers, makers and technology enthusiasts to design and build innovative prototypes focused on the future of electric and intelligent vehicles.
The challenge encourages participants to create a prototype smart electric vehicle or an intelligent system designed for next‑generation transportation, tackling real‑world challenges such as obstacle avoidance, battery optimization, vehicle safety and system efficiency.
Five selected challengers will receive a free kit of components to support the design and build of their prototype or test rig. Participants must document their build process through blog posts and share their final outcomes. Submissions will be evaluated based on creativity, technical execution and innovative use of the components provided.
“Smart transportation is evolving quickly, and hands-on experimentation plays a critical role in turning ideas into practical solutions,” said Andreea Teodorescu, Global Director of Product Marketing and element14 Community. “This challenge empowers community members to explore emerging vehicle technologies while sharing knowledge and inspiring innovation across the engineering community.”
Example smart transport project concepts include, but are not limited to:
- Prototype electric vehicles
- Automated or auto-charging EV parking systems
- Battery management and diagnostic systems
- Speed monitoring solutions
- EV safety and redundancy systems
- Traffic management solutions
- Sensor and perception systems
- Navigation and obstacle avoidance systems
Applicants are encouraged to review the example application available on the challenge page to assist with the submission process.
The first-place winner will receive a smart electric scooter, a smart LED bike helmet and a bionic dog robot. Second place will receive a bionic dog robot, and third place will be awarded an off-road unmanned ground vehicle robot. All participants who successfully complete the challenge will also receive a 400A AC/DC Clamp Meter.
Applications are open now through 7 June. Selected participants will have until 16 August to complete and submit their projects.
